Brahms completed his Piano concerto No. 1 in D minor when he was 25 years old. It was his first composition for orchestra. The unexpected opening always manages to impress the audience, and the abundant passion and bold sense of adventure drew such praise from Clara Schumann, “every musical note is beautiful!”. Schumann’s Symphony No. 2 in C Major was completed in 1846. It was the peak of his creativity yet also the period when he severely suffered from mental illness. Schumann remarked that this symphony was a memento of his dark period, and felt extremely happy to have finished it. Indeed, the composition reflects the duality of Schumann’s personality, and was theraputic for the composer.
In his youth, Brahms admired Schumann greatly, and the older composer was both a mentor and close friend to the younger musician. After Schumann passed away in the mental asylum, Brahms took care of his mentor’s wife Clara and children like his own family. Come experience the subtle German Romanticism presented by Meng-Chieh Liu, the pianist who had overcome rare illness himself, conductor Chiu-Sheng Chen and NTSO.

布拉姆斯25歲時完成了他的第一號鋼琴協奏曲，這也是他的第一首管弦樂大作。樂曲石破天驚的開頭，讓人震憾不已，曲中表現出充盈的熱情、大膽的冒險，讓克拉拉‧舒曼讚美它：「幾乎每一個音符都美!」。舒曼的第二號交響曲完成於1846年，這是他創作的巔峰時期，也是他飽受精神疾病困擾的時期，他說這交響曲是他黑暗時期的紀念品，完成它讓他感到非常快慰，它確實呈現出了舒曼的二元人格特性，也具有深切的療癒效果。舒曼是布拉姆斯年輕時期的偶像，對於布拉姆斯來說，他是恩師也是摯友。而布拉姆斯在他進入精神病療養乃至逝世之後，陪伴照顧克拉拉以及他的子女，對他來說，布拉姆斯就是家人。聆賞戰勝病魔的鋼琴家劉孟捷與陳秋盛指揮國臺交，品味深沉的德式浪漫。
