斯特拉溫斯基重新審視音樂本質，作為新古典主義代表作曲家之一，企圖拋棄浪漫時期以崇高的情感為出發點，《八重奏曲》以管樂重奏的形式呈現新古典音樂的風格。西貝流士《第五號交響曲》，被視為作曲家最動人的交響曲，創作於險峻的戰火中，展現對於民族記憶的想像，模擬著天鵝的歌聲，思索生與死的真諦。普羅柯菲夫《第一號小提琴協奏曲》慢-快-慢的樂章設計，不同於傳統協奏曲架構，豐富迷人的旋律，呈現濃濃的民族色彩以及作曲家的獨特魅力，特殊的獨奏語彙與艱難技巧，考驗著獨奏家的功力。且隨著近年在樂壇中展現雄厚實力的小提琴家林品任與現為香港小交響樂團及廣州交響樂團音樂總監葉詠詩，一窺二十世紀三位音樂巨人的音樂魅力。
As a signature composer of Neoclassicism, Igor Stravinsky reexamined the nature of music and attempted to depart from sublime emotions of Romanticism. In his “Octet,” Stravinsky presented the distinct style of neoclassical music in a combination of woodwind and brass instruments. “Symphony No. 5 in E-flat Major” by Jean Sibelius, created in times of war, is regarded as the most moving symphony of the composer. Emulating the song of swans, the symphony evokes collective national memory and delves into the meaning of life and death. “Violin Concerto No.1 in D Major” by Sergey Prokofiev, on the other hand, marks a departure from traditional concerto form with its unique slow-fast-slow movement arrangement. The enchanting melodies, deep ethnic colors, and the composer’s musical charm in the concerto continue to captivate audiences. Meanwhile, the distinct solo language and profound musical dexterity required to perform the piece present a challenge to the solo violinist. In this concert, emerging violinist Richard Lin and Music Director of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and former Music Director of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra Wing-Sie Yip will introduce the audience to the world of three music giants of the 20th-century to have a taste of their musical charm.
