沃爾頓受到仰慕的作曲家普羅高菲夫影響，由作曲家興德密特擔任首演獨奏的中提琴協奏曲，樂曲瀰漫著抒情而孤寂的氣息，將由Concert Artists Guild五十年來最年輕的大獎得主李捷琦擔任中提琴獨奏。普羅高菲夫在完成著名的第三號鋼琴協奏曲之後，花費了七年的時間，完成了取材自中世紀神秘劇的歌劇《火天使》，他之後從歌劇發展出了結構嚴謹、充滿古風的第三號交響曲，歌劇中修道院的神魔對立，烈火象徵的光與熱情，轉化成抽象的器樂交響曲之後，依然熾熱迷人。本團2008年駐團藝術家作品暨鼓勵創作徵選獲選，周久渝作品風格表現多元、情感真摯、對於東西方樂器的運用手法嫻熟，她的《以剩餘之名》完成於2008年的初夏，三首作品讓你感受作曲家創作的探索與苦行之路。
Walton’s Concerto for Viola and Orchestra was influenced by the style of composer Prokofiev, whom the English composer admired. The piece was performed for the first time by fellow composer and violist Hindemith and carries a romantic yet lonesome sentiment. In this concert, the concerto will be interpreted by violist Scott Lee, the youngest winner of the Concert Artists Guild Competition in its 50-year history.
After completing his famous Piano Concerto No. 3, Prokofiev spent seven years on the opera The Fiery Angel, which was inspired by a medieval mystery play. The opera, which later inspired Prokofiev’s well-structured Symphony No.3, is a passionate display of the conflict between God and the Devil. The light and passion symbolized by blazing fire continues to burn brightly in this abstract orchestra interpretation of the story.
Chiu-Yu Chou, winner of 2008 Residence Artist Composition Awards, fully displayed her diverse style, raw emotions and familiarity of both western and eastern instruments in her 2008 award-winning work “In the Remains”.
Three compositions offering the audience glimpses of three different paths of exploration and effort taken by the composers.
